In Bar, Berane and Cetinje, panel discussions were held for representatives of local self-governments, political parties, PWDs and NGOs, where documents developed through the project “Encircle non-discrimination!” were presented: Document on the rights of persons with disabilities in the field of participation in political and public life and Report on the level of discrimination of persons with disabilities in the field of participation in political and public life.
The aim of these panels was to present to the public the results of research on the participation of PWD in political and public life, and to give recommendations for overcoming the causes that discriminate against persons with disabilities for the enjoyment of rights in the field of participation in political and public life.
After the presentation of the aforementioned documents, a discussion developed, where the panel participants presented their views on this issue and discussed models of solving the problems of PWD when it comes to their participation in political and public life.
One of the conclusions from the panels is that the full and effective participation of persons with disabilities in the election process should be the focus of the activities of state and local authorities in Montenegro, which reflects the right to a general and equal right to vote, because equality and non-discrimination are the basic principles of election and political participation of persons with disabilities.
The panels were held as part of the project “Encircle non-discrimination!” implemented by ngos North Land from Berane, Association of Persons with Physical Disabilities of Montenegro from Cetinje and Preventive and Educational Center from Podgorica, with funds from the Ministry of Justice, Human and Minority Rights for 2021.
